Virtualization

Virtualization is a software technology, which fundamentally changes the usual principles and perception of IT technologies. The virtualization process considerably improves the IT infrastructure quality and increases the efficiency of IT resources usage, thusly saving money and power. The resources virtualization comprises of:

  • Server virtualization – Consolidation of multiple physical servers into virtual servers and their execution on one or on considerably smaller number of physical servers
  • Application virtualization – this technology enables the unification of multiple physical servers into the virual servers and their operation on considerably smaller number of machines
  • Desktop virtualization – this system enables the user’s desktop to be separated from the physical machine and transferred to any other computer within the business environment or outside of it
The main advantages of server virtualization are:
  • Lowering the number of physical servers necessary for development of the given server structure
  • Infrastructural saving – the significant lowering of hardware electricity consumption, energy for cooling systems, the neccessary capacities and performance of the unineterrupted power supply, number of needed active network components, decrease of space needed for implementing server infrastructure
  • Centralized mode of server administration through a unified management console
  • Autonomy of virtual servers from the designated hardware, in the case of server hardware failure, the virtual server can be transferred to a working hardware
